Resources for Parishes
Home

A range of practical tools are available here to help parishes meet the Everybody's Welcome objectives of supporting parishes to become more welcoming, more friendly and more family-sensitive. They are all free of charge to download as MS Word documents or as pdf files (you will need Adobe Acrobat to read these). Some of them you can also view as webpages. As the year has progressed various dioceses and parishes have sent in copies of their materials which you can access via the sidebar link.

The Ministry of Welcome | Back to top
The Ministry of Welcome is a four or five session training resource for parishes. It aims to enable all parish groups to understand why welcoming visitors and strangers matters, that all parishioners need an ongoing welcome and to prompt parishes to improve their own welcome policies. Originally devised by the Anglican Diocese of Winchester and adapted by the Diocese of Portsmouth, this resource has been revised and supplemented by the Everybody's Welcome working group, drawing on material developed in the Diocese of Arundel & Brighton and elsewhere. Its especially useful as a starting point - the first step for parishes on the way to becoming more welcoming, friendly and family-sensitive.

Everybody's Welcome? Helping Your Parish to Become More Friendly for Families of All Kinds | Back to top
is a simple package to help parishes explore new ways to be more family friendly.  Being family friendly isn't just about providing a programme for the children. It's also about meeting the needs of an elderly spinster caring for a relative at home. It's about filling a gap in your local community. It's about making sure everyone is safe, secure and comfortable in your church. It's about listening to what everyone has to say. It's about sharing a fresh vision for your church.

Whether you're a cathedral or a tiny chapel, in the inner city or the depths of the countryside, you can adapt this material to your needs.

Everybody's Welcome contains:

  • An introduction - what does it mean to be family-friendly?

  • How to get started - discussion starters for the leadership team or small groups

  • Self-evaluation - a self evaluation sheet to explore the good work you're already doing in this area

  • Creative ideas - for adult, teen and children's groups, to help your whole church get involved in the process of making your church more family-friendly

  • Questionnaires - for the local church and the local community to help you discover new ways you can meet family needs

  • ideas fro reaching different kinds of family groups

  • Resources and website to help you find the information and help you need so that you can make your vision a reality

This resource was originally developed for Churches Together for Families in 2000 but has been adjusted in 2006 for the Catholic community by the Everybody's Welcome Working Group. It's especially useful for parishes who are already satisfied with their ministry of welcome and want to look deeper into the issues of becoming more family sensitive.

What is Life Like? | Back to top
is a series of six leaflets to help parishes understand and meet the needs of families in specific situations - the kinds of situations that were mentioned many times over during Listening 2004. Each leaflet was developed by a group that included those with personal experience of the family life-issue as well as those with pastoral experience of ministering to families in that situation. The leaflets can be used in conjunction with either of the resources above or on their own.
